Every preset colour is paired with a matching COE so the piece would actually survive annealing.
Important
Simulation results are estimates for learning only. Actual glass behaviour depends on your materials, your equipment and your technique. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and take hands-on instruction before working with hot glass.
How it works
Colour on hot glass is applied by contact: the gather is rolled in frit, dusted with powder, washed with oxide or touched with gold leaf. The mixer reproduces that with a texture painted in real time onto the surface of a rotating blank, using a different brush behaviour for each material.
Frit lays down discrete granular marks because frit is crushed glass and reads as speckle. Powder sprays a soft, blurred field. Oxide wash spreads thin and translucent. Gold leaf sits on top as a bright, opaque patch. Marble swirl smears existing colour into bands. Coverage and estimated frit usage update live so you can see how quickly a colour layer adds up.
Controls
- Tool
- Frit sprinkle, powder brush, oxide wash, gold leaf or marble swirl
- Brush size
- How wide a mark each stroke leaves
- Flow
- How much material is laid down per stroke
- Colour
- Eight frit presets plus a custom picker
What you get out
- Coverage (percent)
- Estimated frit usage (g)
- Colour layers applied
- COE compatibility check
These simulations are a teaching aid. They do not make anyone competent to operate a furnace, glory hole or kiln. Real work requires eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, working extraction, a carbon monoxide alarm and hands-on instruction.
